This vintage, embroidered, roper’s caddy/bag/case is a true gem for western/cowboy/rodeo collectors and a very, very rare find. The burgundy and quilted white leather carrying case for lariats/lassos, and such, was made by bray’s leather shop, etter, texas, as attested by the stamped leather at the top zipper’s edges. I looked up etter and found it north of amarillo and south, east and west of absolutely nowhere. There are no signs of a town – old or new – and further research revealed no trace of the leather shop, so i can only imagine it was likely made in the back of a barn, or old ranch shed, by some talented farmhand who might have also made saddles and other gear for local cowboys. Like tom, who this “ropers’ kaddy” was made for according to the embossed leather on the back. The bag also a fabulous embroidered team roping scene and three large pockets with heavy gauge zippers in great condition, as well as two canvas straps for easy carrying. What’s even more wonderful is that the bag still has four of tom’s lariats still inside, including a very special, handmade one of rawhide. The bag measures 22″ x 21″ x 7 and it is in fantastic shape, showing enough signs of wear to know this bag was loved and used. Please examine images carefully and contact me with any questions about this absolute treasure.
